TEHRAN -- 1,100th anniversary of the establishment of Samanid Dynasty is currently being celebrated in Tajikistan. The celebrations started on Monday through a special ceremony in the Tajik capital Dushanbe, attended by senior officials of Tajikistan including President Emomali Rakhmanov, who unveiled a three-meter high statue of Esmaeel Samani, the founder of the Samanid Dynasty. Rakhmanov said that paying tribute to the past celebrities makes the nations aware of their history and strengthens their sense of patriotism.
He added that the Samanid rulers played a key role in the progress of the Tajik nation and the human civilization, noting that their rule was based on cultural values. The statue of Esmaeel Samani was erected in Friendship Square in Dushanbe. It replaced the statue of Ferdowsi, the renowned Iranian poet. Ferdowsi's statue was moved to a national park a few months ago.
Some $7 million have been spent on Esmaeel Samani's statue, a museum and the garden around it. A large number of cultural authorities as well as historians from different countries are taking part in the celebrations, which will run through to September 10.
